This has so far been a great year for growing hay but a very tough one to get it put up here in thunderstorm alley - along the IA/MN border and east into WI. Another very heavy storm cell is just dumping rain on us as I type this. But after last year's drought I vowed to  never again complain about too much rain...

Everything I baled so far this year I've wrapped. But a week ago I finally got to my last small field of first crop grass hay. It's a tough to get to small field. Mowed it on 6/26, it got rained on once or twice, got some sun and breeze so raked and baled it on 7/1. It may not be real good hay but was dry so I decided to put it in the hay shed rather than wrap it.

It's a good feeling finally seeing that first row of hay in the shed after sitting empty for a very long time. A very pleasant sight. It's not the best hay, but as the saying goes, it will be better than feeding snowballs in January.
