| I typically buy my apples at a local fruit stand, rather than in the grocery store. I have had several varieties over the years. One variety that comes to my mind that has not been mentioned above is Stayman. I think it is a "crunchy" apple, a bit tart. But I like them that way. Stayman tend to be available later in the season, say in the October/November time frame. In my area, MacIntosh tends to be available earlier. I think I see newer varieties being available - Gala, Honeycrisp, etc, - so the MacIntosh and Stayman, which are older, are not as readily available. This morning I saw this article on Morning Clips, and I thought I would link it. It mentions a variety released in 2017 - Antietam Blush - as well as two newer varieties not yet released. |
