It does not taste the same if you don't blanch it first. We tried both a few years ago and didn't like the "easy" way.

Each to their own. You may like it.

We've also found it tastes best if you can husk it quickly after boiling and get it into cold water asap.

Tried Obsession II this year and fairly impressed. Favorite is Jackpot.
