Subject: RE: PTSD

New London, Wisconsin
My dad was a WW2 vet but I would say he did not have PTSD. In his role as a Psychiatrist, he did help many who did have it. Most did benefit. I think because he had several very close encounters with the horrors of war, it gave him first hand credibility to really understand his patients. In his later years he finally opened up about those WW2 experiences to me. Not the kind of things anyone should have to live through.

I did have a friend who has long since moved away who was a Huey door gunner in Viet Nam. He had horrific stories and didn't tell many of them. His wife would sometimes be awakened by his terrors in sleep, and she had become profoundly affected by his experiences. One of those nights turned her hair as white as snow in days. She was early 40's at the time.

PTSD is real, but I do get that a few have used it as a crutch while others who really need help often don't ask.

Jim
