Malta, Illinois | I start by bringing about 6 cups of water to a boil and then add a pound of ground beef and a chopped onion. Boil for about ten minutes or so while constantly skimming the grease off the top. After the meat is cooked put in a can of tomato juice along with all of your spices. For me I use a liberal amount of chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika, along with garlic and onion powder. I use dark a can of dark kidney beans, chili beans, diced tomatoes, stewed tomatoes. I also use about half a cup of brown sugar along with a can of dark beer. Simmer it on the stove or throw it in a crockpot and let it cook down for several hours. It is always better the next day. I quit browning meat for chili a long time ago. Cooking the meat in the water works great. | |
