NW Missouri | I'm no help on what you have now, but I put a blue flame radiant heater in my garage and am very happy with it. Keep it on the lowest setting and it keeps the 30x32 attached garage in the low 50s. Doesn't seem to run much unless it's really cold. Our vehicles go in and out enough it gets plenty of fresh air.
Edit to add - we forgot to put a gas line in our garage when building too. Only took the propane company an hour or two to T in where the line goes into the house and vibrate a line underground across the back of the house to the garage.
