Subject: RE: Pastures How Steep is too Steep - mowing pastures

Ludington/Manistee MI area

Tiger doesn’t get it.

I’ve traveled across the Driftless region I seen the hills I’m not sure “hill” describes them accurately I fully understand why you wouldn’t brush hog them.  Baby mountain is more accurate.  I also agree 100% about stock piling.   Why expect your cows to eat over ripe hay that’s been standing for months.  Heaven forbid you harvest it as close to its nutritional peak as possible.    Right now I’m feeding some nice alfalfa baleage.   When I pull the stems out that are caught in the net wrap they still have the moist leaves on them I doubt his grass that’s been out in the elements since summer has that.   Most of my grass hay comes off poorer HIGH deer pressure rental ground that corn or beans wouldn’t work on.
