Im shooting for 50lbs silage, 10-15lbs hay, 3 lbs distillers.

Family has been doing that last couple years and it’s going well.

Currently CRP hay at 60-70lbs and 5-10lbs corn DDGs. Just not quite enough goodies for a nursing fall calver. I’m right on the edge but I don’t like it.

Silage distillers through a schuler box and hay either set off or unrolled.



That’s about where we’re at on fall calvers minus the distillers. To the op we haven’t fed corn silage to cows in years, it’s either sorguhm, triticale or oat silage. You can get a cash crop and feed crop off the same acres in the same year.
