| Exactly right. Watch a lot of calves sell every year. No one is selling 900 pound calves off the cow. But they ought to be if you believe all the EPD BS. Here are some little known facts, there are a lot (but certainly not all) of "seedstock" producers who have never had to make a dollar selling cattle by the pound. They couldn't begin to run your operation and make it pay. There is nothing magical about being able to do middle school math to make "breeding" decisions or breeding a cow AI. There are a lot of "donor" cows that wouldn't last a month on most people's pastures. There are reasons why we have the smallest cow herd in 75 years. At the top of the list is cows haven't made much money. Evidently spending bmore and more money for bulls in commercial herds hasn't paid very well after all. | |
