| Only cows that were culled out of that spring of 23' were known dinks, or man killers he had to deal with at home. I personally culled a couple of first calf heifers that wouldn't pan out. Can't blame cow for extreme weather events that killed calf. Some killed calf's laying on them trying to protect them from weather. That was the toughest thing. Cows brought them into life, we saved them. Then have cow lay on them trying to shield them from weather. Do you cull a cow for that type of maternal traits?
So yes we kept those cows, ran them again. I would rather keep a 2 year old cow that raised calf to full term, birthed it but froze to death. Than to sell her and start over again. She was a proven factory, did things right, bred right. Just didn't work out, however two strikes and comes home open on third calf they are gone. All older cows come home open in fall, they are gone. | |
