Being you are from Iowa the state is quite restrictive. Here is a link. https://cfah.org/iowa-marijuana-laws/

Minnesota has just legalized Marijuana, but dispensaries other than medical have not opened up yet.

Technically you can not transport Marijuana into Iowa and it is illegal to take on planes. It has to be consumed in the state where it is legal.

THC is the component that will get you high. Mental impairment is similar to drinking alcohol. People I know on medical Marijuana have shown about as much impairment as drinking two beers. Usually no impairment is found at proper dosages.

The person I know was forced to quit employment after 6 back surgeries. After getting on the Medical Marijuana, she has been able to go back to a full time job since it does a far superior job in reducing pain.

I sat on a county board when recreational marijuana was legalized in Michigan. We weren't sure what policy changes- if any- needed to be addressed. Our insurance carrier made it quite simple for us anyway. If anyone who they were insuring peed dirty were going to be uninsured. Pretty cut and dried.

With that said: I know a number of people gainfully employed who are using some form of CBD/THC. The ones I'm thinking of are using edibles. With full disclosure to their employer. None of them are operating equipment. All of them were longer term employees who've had a variety of health related issues that require some pain medicines to get through the day. I think the employers have decided that a long term employee who does the work correctly is a good thing to keep. I know nothing about the edibles, I do know about a lot of different pain medications. Some of them I've been prescribed over the years render me useless for anything outside of watching TV. I didn't trust my judgement with some of the pain medicine that wasn't nearly as strong far as that goes. Again, from all anecdotal information, the only way a couple of the examples I'm referring to were able to return to work was to switch from prescription pain killers to something else. Apparently, something else is OK in some applications.
