IL, South of 70 | My “fed like hogs” was referring to the way you need to feed holsteins. Corn, corn, and a little more corn. Yes, I contract a year out, but I’m a younger guy with a family and payments to make. The bank appreciates knowing they’re going to get their money. Personally, I will hold out on buying dairy cross calves as long as possible. Too many variables, and already hearing the stories from a few guys. Might as well buy straight beef calves and not worry about getting a few longer legged ones that the buyer says “look to much like stein” and take a big hit on a calf you paid a “premium” for. | |
