Ryan, IA | here is a link to a highspeed video of the first calves through our chute in 2016. I don't know how to make it an active link so you can copy & paste it in your browser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTyjE0tnE2Y it didn't have all gates in place yet when this video was taken but you can see how well the calves run through this chute. We run it with 5 people usually. 1 guy works cattle from pens onto scale and then into the alley. 2nd guy works the whole inside of the circle keeping calves up to the chute. 3rd guy runs the chute and does pour on. 4th guy clips the tail switches and the 5th guy gives the implants. 45 minutes to do 135 calves from each pen and the process is to take 27 at a time, weigh them on the scale, and then put in pen on south with a gate behind them. as soon as they are off the scale the next group is entering getting weighed and getting another gate behind them etc...last group stays on the scale (bud box) and goes right into the alley for implanting. When the scale is empty we get the next group of 27 and so on until finished. using the scale as a bud box and entering a tub into the alley and you never have to swing the tub gate as calves are just going. A big key is making a group , gating them to keep them a group without letting some calves keep getting back on you. When this video was taken we didn't have all gates in place and the last ones were tough to get through because they were the ones that kept finding their way back. Also when this video was done the electric sliding gate between the bud box and the tub was not installed so you can see guy # 1 standing in the gateway and running the tub gate along with no concrete being poured yet on the left side of the screen . This is where the loading chute is and you can see at the end of the video where, part of the circle is swung out of the way to clean up, when we load cattle out or bring in the alley swings over and goes to the chute. this is effortless, no buzzer cattle moving through this facility. I'm goingg to need to update this video |
