Eastern NE KS | My compromise:
tai and haul to pasture
Cleanup bull turn out at 4-5 days
Parentage test (DNA) calves to know sire (and dam if calf tag is lost). Last year one calf was noted as ai sired but test results showed it was cleanup sired. Born on ai due date. All other ai sired calves were born earlier than 283 days, traditional Angus gestation for cows.
I value the ai sire more than the cleanup bull. So I want to ensure little or no sperm competition for a late egg drop. Typical pg on first cycle is 85-90%.
