Around here too few cows in too large a pasture are just like 4 yr old kids - they eat the ice cream and leave the spinach. After a couple years of this you are left with weedy pastures with very little of nutritional value. On the other hand, if limited in open area with sufficient number of cows, they get competitive and will eat everything! Put them in at around 10" average sward height, move them out at around 4" sward height (usually 2 passes around the paddock here), rest that paddock for around 30-40 days and your pastures get better with time and grazing, not worse. Weeds are topped off and manure is concentrated enough to do some good.
