Subject: RE: Dead calf just after working

I've seen two producers at branding time have calves have a reaction. I kept thinking they hit veins on those calves. I don't know, likelihood they hit veins should be really low. One more reason to use shorter needles. If it was the actual vaccine bottle causing it, I feel you should have seen more calves go down.

Yes epinephrine can turn them around, as well as dex if I recall. At the one branding we had a real old bottle of epinephrine that was in vet box. We saved both those calves that day. They were on their sides gasping for air. We held them up on their belly's both lived. Talk to your vet on dosage, write it on box of epinephrine so you can remember.

Also side note keep Benadryl in all your vehicles and home. First line of defense to an allergic reaction for humans. It will buy you some time to get a person to hospital. Saved us many a time
