The footswitch or engage switch has to hook up to the SmarTrax cabling between the box or node down to the valve or to the mechanical drive. I'm not sure what type of SmarTrax you're using, but sometimes it's a 2-pin DT plug labeled "Engage". If you're using MD, then it's going to be a special situation. That one has a 4-pin DTM plug, I think 3 of the pins are populated. There's a normally close circuit and a normally open circuit that have to flip flop when the switch is pressed.

And if using an md, then yes, you will need a proper switch to finish the calibration.
Raven has both a footswitch and a finger switch available that would work depending on your preference.
I believe the remote switch in your pic is not the connection you need for the smarttrax MDU switch.
