Subject: When do I need to have cows/calves off of rye?

East Central, Nebraska
Got the cows to the rye field late and it just headed out, is there a particular time they need to be off? I’m sure I don’t want it filling with grain but they seem to be getting along well on it. What downsides/reprocussilns am I overlooking? I thought about shredding it down soon. They also can graze a cornstalk field attached to the rye. They spend the majority of their time there. Corn was down real bad around here last year. Thanks.
