There’s political disagreements even in strong democracies. It’s the nature of the beast. However if you can create a distrust of government that goes so far as to not accept the results of elections, you can put any country on the short road to authoritarianism. Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist party never polled a majority of German voters before they took power. I think the figure was in the mid 30’s % of the vote. The whole premise of National socialism’s platform wasn’t that we’re going to start a world war and cause the death of tens of millions of people over the next 10 years, it was the democratic government isn’t working, but we can make it work again if we have the authority. And we see how that came out.

It’s all part of a continuum, government is a convenient punching bag that everyone likes to bitch about. However when you have the internet and social media as well as broadcast and print media dealing in “alternate facts”, artificial or uninformed grievance is created. FACTS and reporting of FACTS are an antidote to this process.
