It mainly likes to grow in areas that had disturbed soil or areas without grass cover. That being said my cattle have always ate the crap out of it when i'd turn them out into the paddock adjacent to the barn and catch pen at home, never had an issue. In hay I wouldn't worry much about it, by the time it dries it turns into a nasty brown crunchy stick i doubt cattle would even eat that when you feed the hay anyway.
