I have friends near North Liberty , IN that used to milk. When we compared milk prices, their hauling was definitely higher than ours. Their dairy cows have been gone about 10 years now.
We used to be 35cents and no stop charge. Milk was hauled 7 miles to cheddar plant or 45 miles to cream cheese plant. Those days are gone. Cost of trucking is up and the milk is moving around more. Now the milk is going to fluid 60 miles and yogurt 80 miles. I think ours goes 7 miles only once per week.
This will probably shift again as western NY has new big plants coming online.
