New calf today. The cow has two large front teats with the back two normal. He was up and trying to nurse when I got home. She doesn't want to let him on the rear so I'm not sure what he got if any. We may have lost her calf last year when she calved in the pasture for that reason. I put a bottle of colostrum in him around 630 with no problem just in case. Planned on offering him some replacer in morning before work.. Now I'm wondering if I should try 1/2 bottle in the morning or wait until I get home and try a full bottle.
If I feed him too much i don't want him dependent on the bottle and not work on his own. I'm guessing she may be relived if I can get her in a chute and milked down on the front , which should make it easier for him as well. It may be a day or two before I can get that done. Any advice?
