Subject: RE: Who's raising dairy replacement heifers?

Chilliwack, British Columbia
I used to be part of a custom heifer raising operation as an extension of the dairy, getting out as it no longer fit my long term plans.

We charge $5/head/day. This includes transportation (3hrs to where most of our customer base), feed, medication, follow-up vaccination and insemination and any shots correlated with that. Did not pay for semen. Dead's compensated for somewhat, but cannot remember the details.

We took them in at about 6 months, delivered home about 30 days prefresh. Clean up bulls in the pregnant pens.

Works good for what it is, the other partners are continuing with it so working well for them.

Had enough acres all the forage was home grown.

Here's the twitter page, hasn't been updated in a while! We have added pens since, but same idea.
