was actually trying to figure out a way of helping them to get their nest to stick better to the house.
They will build on a shelf if it's provided. Don't make the shelf too big; just six inches wide, six inches deep, and about eight inches below the ceiling. One shelf per nest, with four feet of space between each nesting site. Also, a bit of tight clothesline tied up near the nests will give them a place to roost when their nest gets too crowded with fledglings.

I have clothesline tied in the back of my barn for roosting. Most of their nests are fastened to mud-dauber nests, but I did relocate one nest to a hastily-constructed shelf after it fell. I've seen them nest on shelf-like protrusions in other barns on the place, so I know they'll build on such without a problem.
