this depends on technology. a 100 acre farm is no longer viable for a full time job, unless you can do an extremely high value crop. 1000 acre crop farms dont really seem to be full time anymore either. If a technology comes along that allows one man to farm 20000 acres, then a 2000 acre farm becomes unsustainable as an only income.
