Putin was sure Trump would win a second term and destroy NATO which trump had went most of the way to doing. Problem was trump lost and Putin was forced by China to wait until the Olympics were over then they could go in to Ukraine. Which gave Biden time enough time to reunite NATO.
Putin is now looking for a way out of this mess while still trying to stay in power, my bet is it won't happen.
