| Any planning ahead is better than nothing. Doesn't change math though. Often I see parents help a farming child a bit more than non farming children to get them started. Probably necessary due to the enormous capital required to grain farm in IA. Many do like you suggest and plan ahead via investment in their own farm or outside investments knowing they will need to buy out other family someday. A whole life policy would not be the way I would do it, but it is 100% better than doing nothing. Other times I see parents give all the land to the farming child and all other assets to non-farming children. To each their own and non of my business. Not all is fair and equal. Just sharing what I see. Everyone starts different, with differences the whole way through the journey. | |
