Subject: RE: Growth the myth

In my area, the ones that didn’t really grow through their generation tended to retire and rent out their ground. Most farms around here have grown a lot in the last generation. However, buying and renting ground can be difficult, probably why it seems the big get bigger, so some will diversify to create growth another way. Maybe they grew the size of their dairy farm, built hog barns, put up big feedlots, focus on more niche markets, run older equipment, use conventional seeds, generic chems, etc.

So, I suppose the question becomes, are we talking about opportunities for a handful or are we talking about the industry as a whole? Depending which question you want answered, will likely be a different answer in my opinion.
