Subject: Chopping triticale

north east IN

Went over to chop some triticale for one of my customers and the Crop was so thick the equipment couldn't handle it. The mowing crew burned up the clutches on there mower and the merger just clumped it 5 feet high ( not my mower or merger) They had to quit using a mower and brought there machine and started chopping with a direct cut head (mower head for chopper). They also brought two semi trailers and a Brigadier straight truck. We finished chopping the crop on the ground that was cut and they worked on the unmowed portion. We went to the job thinking we would finish with our chopper and two trucks by the end of the day. It ended up being two choppers , 5 trucks, and three days! We took our chopper home but helped haul and pushed up at the bunk. They also were not expecting the bunk to get as full as it did, they had to bury one of their corn silage bunks. The triticale was way over ripe because of all the rain we’ve had and went 22 ton to the acre at 75% moister. ended up with around 3000 ton off 136 acres.
