Subject: RE: Silo over half poured pic

Latimer, Iowa (north central)
Hopefully that new silo had proper geotechnical done on the footings. We had 2 30x80 Rochesters and when they got full one of them settled into a lean of about a foot at the top. Made it real difficult to use in the winter with a top unloader as unloader didn't hang straight down in the middle. Of course, the lean had to be away from the Northwest side too, so really exasperated the silage freezing to the NW wall.

They both just had a ring foundation dug with a backhoe and silo company said good enough. The weight of the silo and silage was too much though. We had to have them come back and they jacked it and got it a bit straigher but never was right. The next 2 silos built had pilings put down 75 foot into the ground.
