It seems like the Pik program served a bit of similar purpose to crop insurance deal. Plus the fact that loan rates were very close to market prices, there were backstops for getting somewhat close to breakeven. Unfortunately the double digit interest rates and occasional drought buried guys that were otherwise good operators.
