If you already have the hot wire running to the fence underground, i would drive 3 ground rods in near the fence energizer and call it day. Space ground rods 10ft or so apart and run one line across all three to the ground connection of the energizer.
Obviously dont put the rods right next to an underground gas line or next to your electrical mains.
