Never could get my cheaper model offset to do what I wanted, bought a vertical smoker. I have friends who have custom built an offset, works nicely, so guess concept is workable.
Performs great for big meals, use pellet grill/ smoker for smaller jobs.
I will never get rid of my gas grill though.
