Subject: RE: Grass hay- Pasture nitrogen

SE Nebraska
Interested in opinions here. We always put down 50 lbs actual N on our smooth bromegrass pastures. Last year with the drought we cut our brome at the usual time but did not get much of a yield. Got some good rains in August and the brome took off again. We decided to put some more nitrogen on (dont remember how much) but the pasture we mowed was growing extremely green and lush. Best looking grass I have ever seen and then started to turn brown and sickly looking. We mowed it again before it got too bad but decided not to do later season nitrogen applications on brome again.
