Spread out stacks into a single layer and then cover with salt.


I’d like to see the amount of salt it takes to make a noticeable difference for hot big squares at 30% moisture. Maybe I’m inexperienced but it takes a whole lot of salt to help mildly moist small squares even before they start to heat.

To the OP, get those bales out of your barn ASAP. Five high hot big squares is a recipe for disaster. You’re only a few dozen degrees away from bad things! Once hay breaks over 140*F the chemical degradation/self-heating starts to runaway and becomes very difficult to stop. At 160*F fire becomes almost guaranteed and combustion occurs at 170*F-175*F.
