You can put out the nastiest hay you got—-they’ll pick thru it and eat more than you’d think—-maybe slows down/balances the washystuff—and probably has more energy.

Lotsa ‘unedible’ weeds are higher in protein—-I’ve seen spotted knapweed fields devastated by controlled grazing. A few cows locked up, fed knapweed in a blend, than almost straight. They got a taste for it and showed their buddies.


An old man in this area wasn’t the most dedicated when it came to feeding his cows. He didn’t really care. I always felt sorry for those critters. Only cows I’ve ever seen that would eat briars and multiflora rose.
