Subject: What to replace lost dirt in barn/feedlot with

Central ND
I have a customer that I've been cleaning out his barns, and piling his manure pack for about 10 years. He his very particular about the dirt, and we lose very little dirt when we clean, but there's always a little. He would like to add some stuff back in this summer, but I am unsure what exactly is the right stuff? Everything was built right on top of well-seasoned topsoil, the stuff is almost like rubber after all these years. He has tried clay, that just mushes up and is a mess. Gravel doesn't work, it just gets scraped up with the manure. I've suggested laying down good, clean black dirt with a sheepsfoot right after we get the manure out, but he doesn't seem to like that idea.

Is there something else that a guy can put down that will stay put as good as the original ground has?
