I had a baseball game last night during the sunny period. I wore a T-shirt and Shorts, and froze my rear end off. I had to turn the heater on in the car to get the chill out last night, the day before the "official" start of summer. We have had a handful of days above 80.

Since I planted my first field of corn in April 24th, Climate has accumulated 595 GDU's. On my last planted field on May 15th, Climate shows it has accumulated 400 GDU's.

According to my nearest research station, the historic average GDU's around this time of the year is 700 GDU's starting from May 1st.

In 2023, we were approximately at 900 GDU's at this point.

In 1993, we were at about 500 GDU's. If I look at their graph, from the 15th of May to the 19th, there was around 400 GDU's accumulated, so my last planted corn is looking like it on pace for 1993. Probably not a good thing it is 106+ day corn!

I was pretty young in 1993, but there must be some significance to using that as a low benchmark for GDU's. Google shows me it was the year of the 40-40-40 corn.

Son of a B****! The weather needs to turn around soon.
