SW Wisconsin | I usually run about 60 jerseys on 4-5 acres of pasture. Most of it definitely isn't pasture by spring. I take them off for a few weeks, let it dry out, and then a few passes with a disk and drag and replant into pasture. I figure I end up with something better than 100 tons/ acre manure application, which long term can't be anything but good, but where I wintered them on the same patch for 2 consecutive winters it's enough that I had pretty patchy take on pasture seed. That's doubtless partially due to planting in drought last year, too, though. | |
