Describe the infection

It was like pink eye but it progressed at least 3x as fast. Started in 1 eye and spread to the other. Watery eyes that then glazed over.

I guess pink eye is possible but having a animal develop pink from flies and lose sight in the infected eye within 5 days has never happened to me. Let alone spread to the other and go totally blind.

I did have a calf born out of season in February this year with somewhat similar issues that stayed contained to a single eye and responded to treatment quickly. This calf however was born in bad weather with mud and could have had the eye scratched by a cornstalk to allow bacteria to take hold. So it kind of made sense what happened.

The new calf did have flies in the pasture but otherwise the conditions were pretty good and no cattle have been infected before or since.
