Subject: Feeder Steer project conundrum.

My daughter's dairy feeder steer started having the screaming runs Wednesday, also had a temp of 105. If we didn't see him crap, we would have never known he was sick. He was still eating well and didn't look sick. We give him a shot of Banamine and call the vet out. The vet checks lungs and stomach all sounds normal. We give him some probiotics and put him on corrid. Manure stiffens up and he never missed a beat. The only issue is that his temp sticks at 105, when the two other calves in the pen is at 102.5, it was hot this week and we were also hosing them off three times per day and they have fans. The sick steer weighed 295 last Sunday, 300 on friday, 307 saturday, and then 316 tonight. Which means he gained twenty for the week which is a little below average but it was really hot this week. The two healthy steers gained 18 pounds for the week. I know these weights can be off due to when they drank water last etc, but it is really weird that he runs such a high temp but can still manage to gain.
