Oklahoma | Holes in the nuts are from pecan weevils. For a single tree, can buy weevil traps that wrap around the trunk, the weevil walks up the trunk and gets trapped. Commercial orchards use those traps spread out through out the orchard to determine when to spray. Weevils live in the soil and will come out after a rain in late summer. If the butler is in water stage when they lay the egg in it, the nut aborts. Once in the dough stage the egg stays until the nut is mature and crawls out after maturity. Once the shells get too hard they can pierce through the shell. Oklahoma state has some good fact sheets on pecan weevil management. When we have to spray we usually use Lambda cy. | |
