Best I've ever used was a New Holland 313 with steel rolls. I have a New Holland H7450 with rubber rolls and it's a great mower too. When I worked at the prison we had a Deere with a impeller and it was awful in straight alfalfa. Did a poor job on mixes, but was good on grass hay. New Holland cutterbar is superior as well to a Deere
