Producers are too close to their own crop this time of year to be objective. Too much focus on what needs fixed or doesn’t look good and not enough on the vast majority of the rest of the crop. Add in selective memory as to what prior crops looked like at certain times in prior years and t hey make for a poor metric.
Almost no producer think they have a record crop coming prior to grain fill and more likely harvest. However that record crop was still a record from Jan on. So if a producer is unable to recognize a record crop early in the growing season are they really a reliable source?
