The reality is that flood irrigation is 50 percent efficient and sprinklers are about 80 percent efficient. That is by current measurement standards. I know alfalfa can go about 10 to 12 ft deep looking for water, corn maybe 2 to 3 ft and potatoes around here we're flood irrigated every 3 days.
