Read an article today in the newspaper sports page, umpire in major leagues being investigated for betting.

Gambling will effect sports leagues. There was an NBA ref that went to prison just a few years ago, but not a lot of press about it. One or two judgement calls late in a game can affect the outcome.

Remember when gambling (lotteries, specifically) were just spreading from state to state. Newspapers said this was about the 5th or 6th cycle, typically run for about 75 years before being declared illegal again.  Dates back to the early days of Colonies-1600's.
