It was "could be up to 3 million acres". The people feeding the info to the news set an obscenely high upper limit to grab attention and turn the spotlight on things. That's how you get more federal disaster funding. Politicians help contractors line their pockets in exchange for a little campaign contribution later. Control the narrative, control the money, control the vote, and repeat.
