Start troubleshooting with a digital voltmeter. The actual numbers along with them being positive or negative will help immensely in figuring out what is going on.

In that vein, if you use a powerprobe III, it will not indicate negative voltage in any way I've found, so make sure it is on the power supply. The battery in this case, or the alternator if you're checking charging issues, or the panels if you're checking solar. Bad grounds will show positive voltage to a better ground with a multimeter, or negative voltage if you're reversing the prongs, with the powerprobe this is one case where you have to pay attention more with the powerprobe. |
