Will unload auger still engage? Combine at high idle check and see if the pulleys on main engine gearcase that drive unload auger belts are turning. Almost sounds like the engine coupler rubber is broken and slips and high rpms... not a common failure mode usually they will break and be done but I've seen it once before.
