Faunsdale, AL | My Kinze 2600 has had some hard steel strips with the two holes in them welded on to reinforce those holes. Don’t know where they came from or who did it but they’re obviously a manufactured product and were welded on with some “farmer” welding technique.
JD sells a protector for the planters that uses 3/8 roll pins instead of 1/4. I’ve put them on about a dozen rows now. Just takes a sharp drill bit.
If you weld them up, I would do one side at a time and use a new shank/protector as a guide to drill through from the worn side to locate the new holes where you just welded it up. Then weld up other side and drill through new hole and shank to make sure you get them right.
